MITIGATING CLIMATE CHANGE DAMAGES THROUGH GENERALIZATION OF CARBON PRICING
Description
Putting impacts of climate change and how to get the world prepared, on the COP26 agenda is crucial. It is clear as well that accelerating the pace of decarbonisation is the best way forward to mitigate these impacts. The more we succeed, the less damage and loss we suffer. Unfortunately, despite all endeavours around the world, we are still far from what should be done in order to significantly reverse the trend of carbon emissions. All economists and international institutions, more and more policymakers, more and more firms and people around the world get convinced that giving a price to carbon is a major catalyst to succeed the energy transition. This COP26 side-event, which will take place in Glasgow in a hybrid format, is organised by the Task Force on Carbon Pricing in Europe with the participation of the Chinese International Finance Forum. It will explore all the channels through which carbon pricing can contribute to accelerate the energy transition. The roundtable which will gather major personalities, policymakers, experts, members of the business community will explore the various facets of carbon pricing and the necessity to introduce its generalisation in the COP26 discussion.
